WGF’s mission to achieve equality for women and girls, now and for generations to come, is in support of WGF’s vision that women and girls in Pennsylvania have equal access, opportunity, and influence in all aspects of their public and private lives. In pursuit of this mission, the WGF Board has adopted three core strategies: to develop the female leaders of tomorrow, advance women’s rights at the policy level, and be the premier resource for gender equity.
Our GirlGov program gives 100 high school girls the opportunity to shadow a state legislator for a day, attend legislative sessions, and advocate for policies that they care about. This allows them to learn first-hand about civic engagement and leadership, the importance of having their voices and concerns heard, and be effective public advocates for women’s rights.
Since its inception, WGF has invested $1 million in grants to support the advocacy efforts of local non-profits to defend and advance women’s rights at the policy level and support systemic change initiatives at state and local levels.
WGF works to promote social change by addressing fundamental social inequalities and bringing them to the attention of the media, voters, legislators and corporate and non-profit decision-makers. WGF continues to raise the visibility of the critical needs of women and girls in our community by engaging the media, presenting testimony at hearings, commissioning research and reports that will increase awareness of the issues that are important to women in our state.
